OCIO Strategic Plan
This breakout session will invite participants to share their key projects for FY11 (i.e., work that they will do independently within their organizations); share projects that will overlap with the OCIO and finally to propose areas of shared need (i.e., key projects, services that could be provided by the OCIO) in FY11 and future years.

Participants who are planning projects with OCIO interdependencies or who are interested in shared services arrangements should come to this work session to help shape/update the FY11 and strategic initiatives within the OCIO.

Data Center Strategy
Individuals expect power anywhere and anytime when plugging a device into an outlet. Electrical utilities is analogous to IT computing services. Power plants, transmission lines, and substations are key components required to deliver electrical utility services. End users don’t need to understand all the components required to deliver highly reliable, available and secure computing services. However, end users do expect to access resources every time a device is connected to the network. The OSU Utility Computing Model is a vision of delivering data center services of the future. The current state of University data centers is inefficient and insufficient to support our long term needs such as disaster recovery, data protection, reliability, and availability.

The purpose of the breakout session is to solicit feedback to build the long term data center strategies, requirements and services. We will solicit feedback around key questions such as, “Is the vision of utility computing services right?” “What are key risks and issues with the current university data center environments?” “What are the key requirements and expectations of a university data center?” “What are the key technology services to be provided in a university data center?“

Year of eLearning Inventory
The eLearning Strategic Implementation Committee (ESIC) report calls for the development of an annual inventory of eLearning services, programs and activities. This comprehensive tool will be designed to improve discoverability of eLearning activities and investment at OSU, creating new opportunities for collaboration, resource sharing and communication campus-wide.

Participants in this session will provide suggestions to guide the design of this resource. What is the most useful information this inventory could provide to your area? How can this information be most effectively collected? What needs to be in place to effectively maintain, update and grow this resource? How can your area contribute?

OCIO Site License Advisory Team
OCIO Site Licensing has organized regularly scheduled meetings for a Site License advisory team comprised of IT representatives from various departments. This team provides feedback on licensed software products and services available to the University. The Office of the CIO is interested in expanding the reach of our current Site License advisory team to obtain additional input from interested University community members. In line with that objective this session will focus on discussing services and products of interest to the CIO Advisory Community.

Key questions we will explore include: How can Site Licensing better serve the University? Which site license software products do you feel we should focus on in FY11 & FY12? What other software opportunities can OCIO Site Licensing leverage on behalf of the University?
