The Office of the CIO is offering online IT Service Management Overview training to help you learn about basic ITIL concepts. The course consists of a pre-assessment quiz, various learning activities, and a post-assessment quiz. Be assured the results will not become part of your personnel record and will not affect your performance review in any way. The quizzes are simply a way to help you measure your knowledge at the start and end of the training. However, a record will be kept of those who have completed the course components.
You may login to Carmen and access the course at your convenience using Carmen’s Join feature. Following the below instructions will help you navigate to Carmen and the Incident Management course.
Note: To join the Incident Management course you must first complete the IT Service Management Overview course.
- Use a supported browser to assure your learning experience is successful.

- Check to see that your computer meets a few basic requirements including: a monitor with 800×600 minimum resolution; JavaScript and Cookies enabled; and a sound card. If you do not have a sound card, ask your supervisor about using a different computer.
- Connect to Carmen at: https://carmen.osu.edu and click the blue log in button.
- Type your lastname.# and password and click [Login].
- Your My Home page appears. Notice the Student tab is selected by default under My Courses.
Accessing the Course via “Join”:
- Your My Home page appears.
- Click the Join link in the navigation bar.
- Scroll to the bottom of the Join instructions page and click the Join link.
- Select the link for the Incident Management training course.
- Click the Register button to enroll yourself in the selected course.
- Complete requested registration information and click the Submit button. (Note that fields marked with an * are required.)
- Confirm your registration information and click the Finish button.
- Click the Done button.
- After joining the IT Service Management Overview course, click the Student tab under My Courses on your My
Home page. - Click to expand the collapsible box next to Ongoing.
- Click to expand the collapsible box next to Offices of the CIO.
- Click the Incident Management course link.
- The course Home page appears.
- Read the Welcome information and begin with Step 1.
- Complete the remaining activities, and then complete Step 8 to test your comprehension.
Note: A Course Complete section with a red checkmark will appear on the course home page when the pre and post quiz are complete. At that time, you are encouraged to print a course certificate as well as complete a course survey.
