Learning Technologies maintains several technology-rich classrooms within the classroom pool. For personal tours of the spaces or demonstrations of the technology, contact Classroom Helpline. Additionally, Classroom Helpline offers, pre-quarter and mid-quarter orientation programs to help instructors incorporate the classrooms' technologies into their daily teaching routine. The rooms listed below are scheduled through the University Registrar.
Central Classrooms (CC) 311
This computer lab is designed for teamwork. The room is equipped with 36 computer stations with two chairs per station for a seating capacity of 72 students. The instructor station includes SMART SynchronEyes software and a SMART Podium. There are no projectors in the room because the SynchronEyes software allows the instructor to share the information on the podium computer to each of the computers in the room. SynchronEyes also allows the instructor to see a thumbnail image of what each student is looking at on their computer screen, block internet access, and conduct polls.
Central Classrooms (CC) 338 & 348
These two seminar rooms are each equipped with videoconferencing capabilities and a wall-mounted SMART Board, an interactive white board. SMART Boards allow anyone in the room to come forward and interact with the computer. A tap on the board is a click with the mouse! Combine videoconferencing with the SMART Board and you can share what you are annotating with all of the participants in your videoconference. CC338 seats 16, and CC348 seats 12. These rooms are perfect for small classes or those in which students at regional campuses can join virtually. Contact Media Services to make a reservation for videoconferencing capabilities.
209 W Eighteenth Avenue (EA) 160 & 170, Hitchcock (HI) 131, Independence Hall (IH) 100
The seating capacity of these large lecture halls ranges from 140 to over 700. What each of these classrooms have in common is a SMART Podium that allows instructors to interact with their presentation materials and write over any application in digital ink. Combined with SMART Notebook Software, a SMART Podium makes it possible to create and deliver interactive lessons. A license key for the Notebook Software can be provided to any instructor assigned to a SMART-equipped classroom and the Digital Union has a Certified SMART Notebook Trainer on staff to assist faculty with using SMART products.
Now Open! The LearnLab in Baker Systems (BE) 285
Learning Technology, with support from the University Registrar, the Classroom Readiness Committee and Steelcase/LOTH, developed a LearnLab™ in Baker Systems room 285. The LearnLab™ seats 32 and is ideal for classes that involve groupwork or group projects. Installed in the LearnLab™ are multiple small, portable whiteboards called HuddleBoards for individual or small-group work and an interactive whiteboard that interfaces with the presenter computer. Additionally, two of the tables are able to project onto the room's projectors for sharing presentations.
