Current Status - Spring 2013
On January 4, 2013, CarmenConnect was made available to faculty and staff for use in spring semester courses and meetings. More information about accessing and using the service can be found at https://ocio.osu.edu/elearning/services/tools/carmenconnect/
Status and Expectations - Spring 2013
At the end of Winter quarter 2012, representatives from the colleges and administrative units participating in the pilot recommended that Adobe Connect be adopted as the Ohio State University webinar service. Further conversation on the topic continued for several months afterward and a timeline was established.
Learning Technology will offer "CarmenConnect" beginning Spring semester 2013. We anticipate that members of the university community will be able to login to the new service with their regular Ohio State usernames and passwords in mid- to late December.
CarmenConnect can be used for:
- academic courses;
- academic support services like advising and tutorials;
- community presentations and other outreach activities; and
- meetings, staff training, and other university business.
More information about CarmenConnect will be made available as the technical details are ironed out. Faculty and staff who need to use Connect during the remainder of Autumn semester or who have immediate questions about the new service can send email to osu-connect@osu.edu.
Pilot Outline and Goals
The Ohio State University is piloting Adobe Connect for use as a web conferencing / webinar service for academic and non-academic units. Connect was chosen during the 2010-2011 academic year as the best product for instructor-guided sessions and small discussion groups, the most common academic needs. Among competing products, it also rated high for accessibility.
The purpose of the 2011-2012 pilot will identify a package of hardware, software licensing, and possible auxiliary services that will be meet the university’s needs. We will also develop a support model and generate best practices for use of a web conferencing platform in distance and hybrid courses at Ohio State. Finally, this pilot should lay the groundwork for successful partnerships between the OCIO and other units at Ohio State.
