Frequently Asked Questions
These are the most common questions we've received since Research in View went live on February 24, along with explanations and information about what can be done to resolve the issue. They are numbered for ease of reference.
1) Question: I can't log in to Research in View. How can I get access?
Explanation: Because of limitations in how OSU:pro accounts were moved into Research in View, some profiles are missing. We have identified most of these profiles and will be uploading them manually.
What You Can Do: If you cannot log in to Research in View, be sure you are clicking on the orange Sign In button and then using your OSU lastname.# and password. If you aren't sure of your OSU lastname.# and password, go to my.osu.edu to reset your password.
If you know you are using the right login button and information, send a note with your lastname.# to riv@osu.edu. Please also tell us if you have a deadline by which you need to produce an annual report or dossier. We are prioritizing requests from people who have deadlines in early April.
2) Question: I had a profile in OSU:pro, but when I log in to Research in View, I don't have one. What happened to my profile?
Explanation: Because of limitations in how OSU:pro accounts were moved into Research in View, many staff profiles were not activated by default.
What You Can Do: If you had an active profile in OSU:pro but don't see one in Research in View, let us know by sending a note with your lastname.# to riv@osu.edu. Please also tell us if you have a deadline by which you need to produce an annual report or dossier. We are prioritizing requests from people who have deadlines in early April.
3) Question: When I log into Research in View and look at my Dossier, many items are missing. Do I have to re-enter all this information?
Explanation: Research in View has many fields where information must be chosen from a dropdown list rather than simply typed in. In addition, there are fields that are required in Research in View that were optional in OSU:pro. Whenever possible, the information from OSU:pro was placed in the right field in Research in View. However, in cases where the typed-in data didn't closely match an entry in the dropdown or where newly required data wasn't available in OSU:pro, the RiV entry was left incomplete. Incomplete entries will not show up in the Dossier.
What You Can Do: Once you have gone through each item in your profile to complete the missing fields, your Dossier will appear as it should. Items needing attention are usually marked with an exclamation mark icon. We know this is a frustrating process! If you have a deadline to produce an annual report or dossier before early April, please send a note to riv@osu.edu; we are looking for ways to provide extra editing assistance to users who have deadlines during this transition period.
4) Question: When I log into Research in View, it looks like many of my entries are duplicated. What happened and what can I do to fix this?
Explanation: Research in View searches online databases for publications that look like they match your profile. The apparent duplications are suggestions from this process. The suggested entries have a checkmark icon next to them; they are not yet part of your profile.
What You Can Do: To merge the suggestion with your existing entry, click the checkmark icon icon and complete the popup form. We encourage you merge the entries, since this will improve Research in View's ability to find new entries that match your profile.
5) Question: I see an error message when I try to log in to Reserch in View. Is the system down?
Explanation: Some people are experiencing an error message when attemptiong to login to Research in View. The error page starts with the message 'Server Error in "/" Application' in bright red text. Following that is a technically oriented description and explanation of the problem. This problem is caused by a conflict between the Thomson Reuter's application and the browser cache on your computer.
What You Can Do: First, clear your browser's cache. You may need to find a local technology guru if this process is not familiar to you. Second, close your browser completely. Be sure to close the browser itself and not just visible tabs and windows. Third, open your browser and try logging back in to Research in View. If you still have a problem, please let us know at riv@osu.edu. If possible, send a screenshot of the error message you see.
Research in View Update (February 28, 2012)
Research in View was released on Friday, February 24th. Some of you may be experiencing some issues with this new system, and we want to let you know that we are working diligently with Thomson Reuters towards resolutions.
We would like to make our users aware that almost all OSU:pro data was transferred from OSU:pro to Research in View. However, because OSU:pro and Research in View are indeed two different systems, there are areas within Research in View that your data will need to be reformatted for Research in View’s requirements (see FAQ #3 above).
We strongy recommend that you login to your Research in View account as soon as feasible and begin reviewing and reformatting your data so that your profile information looks the way you expect.
