eReserves and Librarian Assistance
Instructors can take advantage of library services through partnerships between the Carmen team and OSU Libraries:
eReserves via Carmen
The Office of eReserves uses Carmen to distribute electronic reserves (eReserves) as supplementary course readings. Carmen provides a way to share library electronic reserves – which often have copyright restrictions – with only those students who should see them.
- eReserves can scan materials and upload them into your Carmen course – even if you’re not using Carmen’s other features.
- In cases where instructors are not using Carmen for other purposes, librarians can activate Carmen courses.
- If needed, the Copyright Help Center provides copyright consultation services and investigates permissions for course use.
For more information or to request service, please visit the Library's eReserves page, or call 614-292-6448.
Carmen's Librarian Role
Instructors can enroll a librarian in a Carmen course using the Librarian role. This role allows librarians to work closely with instructors in developing courses and offering research resources. The role includes access to all course content and files, as well as the ability to create and edit quizzes, surveys, and dropboxes and to participate in discussions.
- To find out how the Librarian role might benefit to your courses, talk to your subject area librarian.
- Course instructors are able to add a librarian to their own courses. See Enroll Participants for instructions.
Library Resource Link
Each Carmen course includes a Library link in the top left navigation bar.

The Library link leads to librarian-built resource pages targeted either to the general discipline or to the specific course. The course from which the link is clicked determines which page is delivered. The goal is to provide valuable information to students when they most need it – as they are studying and working on course assignments.
The Carmen Library Link is the outcome of a collaborative project between the University Libraries and Learning Technology. We began offering pages in all courses in autumn 2009.
The Carmen Library Link Project is ongoing and available to OSU instructors. If you are an instructor and would like to have a customized library resource page for your students, please contact your subject librarian.
