New Computer Worm Affects Windows 2000 Systems

There is a High Threat Advisory for a new computer worm that has been reported on three continents. The Office of Information Technology strongly recommends that all users update their virus protection software immediately. To download the latest DAT file for the W32/IRCBot.worm!MS05-039 worm, go to osusls.osu.edu.

This worm primarily affects Windows 2000, but it can also affect some early versions of Microsoft XP. Symptoms include the repeated shutdown and rebooting of a computer. Microsoft also has a downloadable patch on its security homepage, microsoft.com/security.
