The Office of the Chief Information Officer has hired John Anthony "Andy" Jackson to oversee Ohio State's Application Services and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Systems.
Jackson comes to Ohio State from a career that included 13 years as head of applications for two multi-billion dollar companies. He hails from Kentucky, beginning his career in Dayton at Monsanto Research Corporation and EG&G Mound Applied Technologies and assumed roles of increasing responsibility at Brown-Forman, Brown & Williamson, and finally at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco after their merger with Brown & Williamson.
At R.J. Reynolds Tobacco, the second largest tobacco company in the United States, Jackson recently was vice president for Business Solutions. He developed an IT application portfolio strategy and led the applications reorganization for the newly merged company while securing a $190 million company investment to modernize and simplify the legacy application portfolio.
For Ohio State, Jackson assumes the senior director role for Application Services and ERP Systems on June 15. He will have eight direct reports and a team of over 75 staff. Jackson will oversee the Office of the CIO's Web identity management system, applications development, financial and human resource systems, partnership management, student information system, data warehouse applications, financials/grants applications, travel systems, and university development system. He will work closely with stakeholders to ensure systems maximize effectiveness, efficiency and quality, and take full advantage of available technology.
"It is a great honor to have the opportunity to join the team at The Ohio State University, Jackson said. “Having begun my career in Ohio, I am well aware of the pride the state and the community have in the university, and I look forward to helping our team contribute to the achievement of the strategic goals of the university."
Jackson holds a bachelor's degree in computer science and mathematics from Transylvania University and he earned his master's degree in management science from the University of Dayton.
CIO Kathleen Starkoff welcomes Jackson to the Ohio State University family. Additionally, she acknowledges the vast contributions that Ron Piscalko has made to the CIO organization and the university while he held this position on an interim basis since the beginning of this year.
