September SECWOG - LANDesk Security Features

The months seems to drift by these days. Lots of activities within the IT Security space. Rather than continue with the more droll policy and process discussions, this month we're focusing on the university's chosen standard tool for Inventory & Asset management - LANDesk.

Support engineers from LANDesk will take the floor from 3:30-5pm on September 1st in Hitchcock Hall Room 031 (in the basement)* to present an overview of the LANDesk suite of products as well as specific details regarding security related capabilities of those tools. We invite members of the university staff, faculty, student body and interested public IT security community folks curious about this tool to make time and attend.

This is not a sales presentation, the SECWOG format is meant to increase the understanding of the community around the adoption and use of security tools and practices and vendors are invited to assist in increasing the knowledge surrounding products from time to time.

LANDesk users with technical questions can also attend the university's LANDesk user group meetings. Information on the LANDesk user group including time and location for the future meetings should be posted to the distcons mailing list.

Questions regarding the schedule or content of the LANDesk user group meetings can be directed to Christopher Lindberg or Jeffrey Heyde .

LANDesk user group meetings are currently scheduled to take place in the Smith Lecture facility in the Physics Research Building on September 28, 2011, January 25 2012 and April 25, 2012 from 2-4pm.

The monthly OSU IT Security Working Group Meeting is facilitated by the OCIO IT Security Group, but is meant as an open forum for university community members and guests to discuss and present issues surrounding information security problems and practices. The meetings are open to the general public and free to attend. Meetings regularly take place at Baker Systems Engineering from 3:30-5 p.m. on the first Thursday of every month.

If you have any questions concerning the monthly SECWOG meetings, about this months presentation specifically, wish to suggest topics or volunteer to speak at upcoming meetings please don't hesitate to send me, Shawn Sines, OCIO Information Security Planning & Outreach, a message at or call 247-6821.

*Location was changed from Baker 120, which is under construction.
