Reminder: McAfee License for University Set to Expire August 30

This is just a reminder that any university employee still using McAfee for virus protection should promptly uninstall the program and switch to a different antivirus solution. As of Friday August 30, 2013, the OCIO will no longer support updates for McAfee antivirus.

If you are currently using a university license of McAfee, your software will not receive current updates and you will no longer be in compliance with the Client Computing Security Standard (CCSS).

The OCIO offers System Center Endpoint Protection (SCEP) as an antivirus solution for university-owned machines. Faculty and staff may request this software for installation on any OSU-owned machine from http://go.osu.edu/it. Other free virus protection options are available for download from the OCIO site: https://ocio.osu.edu/itsecurity/buckeyesecure/spyware/#resources

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Michael Dangler, OCIO License Software Coordinator.

For inquiries about the appropriate virus protection to use, please contact your department manager or the IT Help Desk at 614-688-HELP (4357).
