On February 9, Microsoft will begin to push automatic upgrades of Office 365 ProPlus 2016 to students currently using copies of Office 365 ProPlus 2013 for Windows installed via the Student Advantage/Office 365 Software Portal. This process will take a couple months as Microsoft will only be pushing the upgrade to 1–5% of the student population each day. Unfortunately, we have no way of knowing when someone will receive the upgrade.
The upgrade will download in the background, and when complete, the user will receive a notification within the Office applications that the upgrade is ready to install. Once the user agrees, the upgrade begins. The user can postpone the prompt, but will be reminded the next time a Microsoft application is launched. There will be no forced upgrades.
Example notification in Microsoft Word
The installation requires all Office applications to be closed and will take approximately 10-15 minutes to download. The download is 850 MB with an optional 200 MB for each language pack.
If you have any questions regarding this upgrade, please contact the IT Service Desk at 614-688-HELP (4357) or email@example.com.
