In the course of your work for The Ohio State University, you will be given access to many types of information about university business and research, which is referred to as institutional data. As an institutional data user, you must be aware of the responsibilities entrusted to you in preserving the security and confidentiality of this information, as outlined in the Institutional Data policy (IDP).
To help you understand your responsibilities when handling institutional data, we encourage you to complete the Protecting Institutional Data course. This training is recommended for all university employees and it is required annually for anyone with access to restricted data.
You can register for Protecting Institutional Data through BuckeyeLearn.
After you complete the course, you will be able to:
- Explain your responsibilities for accessing and handling institutional data
- Identify the four classifications of institutional data
- Describe how you are permitted to share and store each classification of institutional data
- Explain what you should do if you suspect the loss, unauthorized access or exposure of institutional data
If you started the IDP Training on Carmen but have not yet completed it, you have until COB June 1 to complete the course for credit.
If you have any questions about IDP training, please contact Enterprise Security.
