New Automated Process for Requesting IM and Presence

Beginning August 17, there will be a new automated process for university employees to request Instant Messaging and Presence (Lync). As previously announced, The Office of the Chief Information Officer will no longer be automatically provisioning all university employees to receive the service.

Current IM and Presence users will not need to take any action. This request process is only for the following types of users who do not currently have IM and Presence capabilities:

  • Guests of the university
  • Medical Center Employees
  • S Accounts (University Email for Student Employees)

To receive IM and Presence, the employee must submit a request in Self Service. Once the request has been received, access to the service will be granted within 15 minutes.

Student employees need to have an S account in order to request IM and Presence. A faculty or staff sponsor can request an S account on behalf of a student.
