In early November OCIO introduced an automated process that will make it much faster to set up student employee (S) and organizational email accounts.
Organizational email accounts provide a university email account (i.e., brutus@osu.edu, chessclub@osu.edu) for university units and affiliated organizations to allow multiple users to access the account. Organizations who need a new account set up can simply request an email account through OCIO’s Self Service by choosing University Email Service - Organizational Account Request. You will need to let us know:
- The name desired as the email address (i.e.: BrutusRocks, chessclub, etc.)
- The name.# of the account owner
- The name.# of any additional users who need full access to this account
The request form will generate a proposed display name and email address. You can modify this address if you choose. Submit your choices and you will receive a confirmation when the email is active.
Likewise, when a new employee is hired, hiring managers can simply request a student email account (also called “S accounts”) through OCIO’s Self Service by choosing University Email Service - Student Account Request. If your department uses Instant Messaging & Presence you can also set up an account for your student employees. After creating their S accounts, reference KB5183 in our Knowledge Base for step-by-step instructions.
