A “facelift” is in the works for webmail.osu.edu, the landing page for web access to university-provided e-mail systems for faculty, staff and students. The Ohio State University continues its emphasis on managing the Information Security landscape with continued quarterly reporting in 2011. Units are required to report on encryption, critical server registrations and the systems in compliance with the newly instituted Client Computing Security Standard (CCSS - http://buckeyesecure.osu.edu/Policy/CCSS).
Update: Time Warner Cable and Sinclair Broadcast Group reached a new multi-year agreement on January 15. The new agreement ends the dispute between Sinclair and Time Warner in the weeks leading up to the original Dec. 31 expiration of the contract. Since Time Warner and Sinclair came to an agreement, no changes will occur.
Beginning January 16, Ohio State University digital cable TV subscribers could see channel lineup changes for ABC and Fox networks due to contract disputes between Time Warner Cable and Sinclair Broadcast Group.
Beginning February 1, the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) will discontinue the use and support for Cisco VPN Client versions 5.x (Windows) and 4.9 (Mac) that use the IPSec protocol for OSU network connections. All users will be required to download and install the new Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client version 2.x.
Cisco AnyConnect is a virtual private network (VPN) client that provides remote users with secure VPN connections to the OSUnet.
In observance of Christmas and New Year’s holidays, Ohio State offices will be closed December 23-24, and 31.
