Over the past year, OCIO’s Data Analytics team has been tackling difficulties associated with one of the most sought after resources at Ohio State – physical space. Classrooms, meeting rooms and event spaces are plentiful, yet it can be difficult to find open spaces that will suit particular needs at a specific time.
Data visualization. Analytics. Cloud computing.
Chances are you’ve heard one or more of these terms, though you may not see how they relate to your work. If you are like many users, you just want technology to work, and don’t feel the need to overthink how it works – as long as it works.
More than a year ago we kicked off the first phase of the course enrollment data warehouse implementation, using BuckIQ to make it easier and more efficient to adjust classes when student interest exceeds section capacity.
What if the number of interested students exceeds the capacity for planned sections of a course – can we expand the number of students per section? Which sections are in rooms that are large enough to expand? Can we move some sections to larger rooms?
By collaborating with Oracle, we discovered they offer several options to work together more effectively, including a wealth of online resources for users to access when they need help. Since that discussion, Oracle has provided a training session to all of our OCIO teams on best practices, and their continued support is already starting to make a positive difference in the solutions we provide to our customers.

The OCIO will be rolling out a new business intelligence initiative to bring all of Ohio State together in a One University vision, allowing every college and business unit to reach beyond the data analysis they have today. BuckIQ will deliver easy access to user-designed and pre-designed reports, data presentation that is more easily understood through a business lens, and familiar language for easier adaptation to new systems and tools.
