According to industry experts, we are in the midst of a revolution in medical education. Catherine Lucey, interim dean for the OSU College of Medicine, and educators from Emory University, Northeastern University, and San Diego State University recently shared their experiences on how mobility is changing the way universities work. The talks were held during AcademiX, a live video conference that brought presenters and audiences together.
The theme “Enhancing Student Engagement” will inspire the participants at the Office of the Chief Information Officer’s (OCIO) second Innovate Conference. This April 27 conference is an event to build connections and share ideas about the role of technology in teaching and learning and culminates the Year of eLearning at Ohio State.
The Office of the CIO’s Incident Management project was recognized as a 2010 ITIL Project of the Year by Pink Elephant consulting. This distinction highlights key successes of the project’s implementation including: use of ITIL best practices and ITIL-certified staff, formalized project management and dedication to Organizational Change Management and Culture Change. ITIL is an integrated, process based, best practice framework for managing IT services. OCIO is adopting ITIL to establish international best practices and streamline the delivery of IT services at Ohio State.
This year’s Innovate! Conference, sponsored by the OCIO’s Digital Union, is on tap for April 27. The theme is Enhancing Student Engagement; the conference will bring together those who are taking new approaches to engaging today’s ever more connected generation of students. Innovate!

At a recent eLearning conference at Ohio State, faculty and staff used cell phones to browse the web, take pictures, and text. Attendees opened their laptops and keystrokes could be heard throughout the conference. The audience etiquette might have initially resembled that of their students, however these activities were not signs of distraction, but enthusiastic involvement.
