Update: Time Warner Cable and Sinclair Broadcast Group reached a new multi-year agreement on January 15. The new agreement ends the dispute between Sinclair and Time Warner in the weeks leading up to the original Dec. 31 expiration of the contract. Since Time Warner and Sinclair came to an agreement, no changes will occur.
Beginning January 16, Ohio State University digital cable TV subscribers could see channel lineup changes for ABC and Fox networks due to contract disputes between Time Warner Cable and Sinclair Broadcast Group.
Beginning February 1, the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) will discontinue the use and support for Cisco VPN Client versions 5.x (Windows) and 4.9 (Mac) that use the IPSec protocol for OSU network connections. All users will be required to download and install the new Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client version 2.x.
Cisco AnyConnect is a virtual private network (VPN) client that provides remote users with secure VPN connections to the OSUnet.
In observance of Christmas and New Year’s holidays, Ohio State offices will be closed December 23-24, and 31. The IT Service Desk will close at 5 p.m. on December 22 and reopen during normal hours on December 27. The BuckeyeBar at the Thompson Library will close at 4:30 p.m. on December 22 and reopen during normal hours on December 27.
OCIO staff in Learning Technology, with initial input from personnel in several colleges and departments, have been developing a university-wide eLearning Inventory. When completed, this resource will be a searchable and sortable web site where people can find out what eLearning tools are in use at Ohio State. All units - campuses, colleges, departments, and other organizations - that provide eLearning tools for their instructional staff will be invited to contribute to and use this shared resource.
The Ohio State University Columbus campus cable TV network is now playing commercial-free holiday music on channel 21. This temporary audio-only programming is being provided by the OCIO and is available through January 3, 2011.
The special holiday programming features festive music favorites recorded by artists from all genres.
The OCIO Information Technology Resource guides are now available online. The reference guides, available for students, and faculty and staff, highlight university-provided information and learning technology resources and services available at Ohio State. The Office of the CIO, as members of the university Emergency Operations Center, immediately engaged its resources in support of the cleanup effort after a tornado struck the Wooster campus on September 16th.
