The Office of the Chief Information Officer's OSUWeb.net dial-up Internet service will be discontinued on March 1, 2011. OSUWeb.net was implemented many years ago as a replacement service for HomeNet, when few dial up alternatives were available. OCIO has decided to discontinue offering OSUWeb.net due to outdated equipment and a declining user-base.
OSUWeb.net users are encouraged to make arrangements with an alternative Internet service provider prior to March 1. Depending on residential location, a variety of affordable alternatives are available, such as high-speed broadband, DSL, cable, or wireless. Some providers still offer dial up services in residential areas where these options may not exist.
OCIO recognizes this decision will impact individuals who use OSUWeb.net services frequently. Over the next few weeks, OCIO will be sending individual notifications with additional information to those who have used OSUWeb.net services over the last six months, and have a valid @osu.edu e-mail address.
