Changes in OCIO: Customer Needs Remain Paramount

The Office of the Chief Information Officer has had an especially eventful summer. I took over as Interim Chief Information Officer in June, and a change in top leadership always signals a time of change for the entire team. In addition, in July OCIO began reporting directly to Geoff Chatas, Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President in the Office of Business and Finance.

During this time, I have been serving the dual roles of interim CIO and Associate Vice President for the Office of Distance Education and eLearning. It has been a busy but exciting time for me for a number of reasons. The university relies on OCIO to deliver and maintain many technologies that support their efforts in teaching, learning, and research.  OCIO leaders are doing a great job ensuring that we continue to provide these services with the utmost attention to quality.

Our new alignment with HR and the teams within the Office of Business and Finance is an exciting development because this move truly aligns a set of teams with common goals to ensure the work of the university is accomplished efficiently. We expect this alignment to help us gain more insight into customers’ technology needs and to provide a new forum for sharing ideas about what technology upgrades and improvements should receive the highest priority moving forward. We will be doing a great deal of work over the next several months to determine the best way to join forces.

As we turn to our FY14 goals, we are focusing on the most essential efforts that provide the greatest benefit to the university community while assuring that we have the funding, timeline, and metrics in place to be successful. With the BuckeyeBox launch to students and a PeopleSoft upgrade already underway, it looks to be another busy year. Each member of the IT community -- both within and outside of OCIO -- will play an important role in achieving eminence. Over the coming weeks and months, many of you will be engaged as stakeholders to help determine where we can grow and how we can most effectively accomplish our mutual goals.

For the moment, we will continue to focus on keeping our services operating smoothly and providing reliable support for university needs. We are continually looking for new ways to meet your technology needs and enhance the customer experience.
