On Sunday, November 9, we took Carmen down for a routine maintenance task - expanding the space available for uploaded files. During that time, we encountered an error in how the different parts of the system communicate with each other and immediately stopped the task. The error was significant enough that it required us to restore from a backup copy of Carmen.
Carmen is a large and complex system and it takes some time to restore after this type of outage. As a worst case scenario, Carmen may be unavailable for the next 2-4 days as we look to bring it back online with the best data available and in the best state. We are working diligently to minimize the downtime to campus.
We will be doing detailed analysis during the restoration process to determine if any information was lost during the restoration. Carmen is backed up regularly and we will make every effort to ensure that every available piece of data is restored when Carmen is brought back.
We know how critical Carmen is to the academic work of our faculty, students, and staff. For the next few days, we are asking for your patience and flexibility in making adjustments to assignments and due dates. We sincerely apologize for this outage and will notify you as soon as we have more information about when Carmen will be available.
