Telephone Software Features

Your telephone can be customized with different features to fit your individual needs. The optional features currently available are listed below; the related monthly fee for each feature is listed after its description. When ordering any feature, you will also be billed the appropriate MAC order fees.

Features:

 Busy Lamp Feature (BLF)
This feature allows anyone with an electronic set to monitor the busy/idle status of one or more telephones (single line or multi-line phones). Great for answering points, BLF can also be used as a speed call feature by simply depressing the line button next to the phone number you are trying to reach. Your electronic telephone may require an add-on unit to monitor multiple telephone lines.

Cost per month: $0.50 per line monitored

NOTE: Busy Lamp Feature can only be utilized from electronic telephones, but can monitor all types of telephones.

 Call Forward Busy (CFB)
Routes calls to another campus telephone number or to your voice mailbox (614-292-4141), when your telephone line is busy. This feature must be programmed by a technician.

NOTE: CFB requires an order be submitted to change the telephone number your phone line is forwarding to

 Call Forward Busy Per Key (CFBK)
Routes the calls of an individual telephone line on an electronic set to another campus telephone number or voice mailbox when the line is busy. Forwarding number must be programmed by a technician. Only available on electronic telephone sets.

Cost per month: $0.50

 Call Forward Don't Answer (CFD)
Routes calls to another campus telephone number or to your voice mailbox (614-292-4141), when your line is not answered. Forwarding occurs after your telephone rings four to five times. This feature must be programmed by a technician.

NOTE: This feature requires an order request to change the telephone number your phone line is forwarding to.

 Call Forward Don't Answer Per Key (CFDK)
Routes the calls of an individual telephone line on an electronic set to another campus telephone number or voice mailbox when it is not answered in 4-5 rings. Forwarding number must be programmed by a technician. Only available on electronic telephone sets.

Cost per month: $0.50

 Call Forward Programmable (CFI)
Enables you to program and route all calls to another campus telephone number or voice mailbox. Calls are routed before the telephone rings.

Cost per month: $0.50

NOTE: Both CFI and CFU features take precedence and override, Call Forward-Busy and Call Forward-Don't Answer.

 Call Forward Programmable Per Key (CFK)
Allows you to program and route all calls of an individual telephone line on an electronic set to another campus telephone number or voice mailbox. Calls are routed before the telephone rings. Only available on electronic telephone sets.

Cost per month: $0.50

 Call Forward Remote Access (CFRA)
Allows you to activate, deactivate or change Call Forward Programmable or Universal on your telephone from any remote location. Requires either CFI or CFU feature.

Cost per month: $0.50

 Call Forward Universal (CFU)
Allows you to program and route all calls to a non-campus telephone number, another campus telephone number or a voice mailbox. Calls are routed before the telephone rings. Only the telephone receiving your CFU forwarded calls can override the forwarding and transfer calls back to you.

Cost per month: $0.50

NOTE: Both CFI and CFU features take precedence and override, Call Forward-Busy and Call Forward-Don't Answer.

 Call Forward Don't Answer Variable Time (CFDVT)
Changes the number of times your telephone rings before calls are routed to another campus telephone or voice mailbox on a "don't answer" condition (CFD). Forwarding number must be programmed by a technician. Required the CFD feature.

Cost per month: $0.50

 Call Hold Connect (CHD)
Allows you to place a caller on hold so that you can receive a second incoming call and/or activate other telephone features. The caller will hear music. Not available on electronic telephone sets. The call will remain held for any length of time unless one of the parties hangs up.

Cost per month: $0.50

NOTE: Only one call may be held with Call Hold Connect at a time.

 Call Park (PRK)
Allows you to "park" or hold a call on one campus telephone and retrieve the call from another campus telephone. Not available on electronic telephone sets.

NOTE: This feature is available only on single line telephones.

 Call Pickup (CPU)
Enables you to answer another ringing telephone within a predefined call pickup group by dialing a feature code from your campus telephone. The call pickup group must be programmed by a technician.

 Call Transfer/Three-way Conference
Lets you transfer a call to another campus telephone number. If all parties remain on the line, a three-way conference call is created. Only one of the parties conferencing must be using a campus telephone.

Cost per month: $0.50

NOTE: One of the three parties on a 3-Way Conference must always be a campus phone line. If you are conferencing with two off-campus parties and you disconnect your call, the off-campus parties will also be disconnected.

 Call Waiting (CWT)
Enables you to answer a second incoming call temporarily placing the first call on hold. You an toggle between the two calls. The second call received cannot be transferred. You will hear a beep in your ear when a second call comes in. Once you hang up your call, Call Waiting will automatically be reactivated. This may be important to use if you wish to transmit computer data across your telephone line.

 Caller ID (Inbound)
Displays the telephone number of the person calling you before answering the call (local calls only). Our Caller ID offers number only identification and requires either a special Caller ID telephone or box to display the incoming caller's number. Caller ID boxes can be purchased from our office for $11.50 each.

Cost Per Month, Per Line: $4.00

NOTE: Inbound Caller ID will not work on non-Caller ID capable phones and is not available in certain campus locations. Keep in mind, Caller ID is not available in all areas and the caller may block display of their phone number.

 Caller ID (Outbound)
Outbound Caller ID was added to all university administrative phone lines on April 1, 1998. This feature displays your telephone number (247, 292, and 688 office lines only) to the person you are calling. Individuals with Caller ID (inbound) service will see "Ohio State Univ." and your 10-digit telephone number. This service is consistent with the public network calling line identifier service.

NOTE: The Outbound Caller ID feature provides phone number identification only. Outbound Caller ID is not available in certain campus locations.

 Caller ID Blocking (Outbound)
You can choose to block delivery of Outbound Caller ID service on a per call basis. This will block delivery of your phone number from the person you are calling and instead display the message "Private Number." There is no charge for Outbound Caller ID Blocking.

NOTE: Inbound Caller ID is a separate feature from Outbound Caller ID. Inbound Caller ID is optional, requires special display equipment and has a monthly fee. Click here for more information on Inbound Caller ID.

 Directed Call Pickup (DCPU)
Enables you to answer another ringing telephone by dialing an access code plus that telephone's 5-digit extension number.

Cost per month: $0.50

NOTE: This feature is not available on electronic telephones.

 Directory Number Hunt (DNH)
This feature allows incoming calls to be routed on a busy condition to other phones. A technician will program into our switch which phones you want to be part of your DNH group and the order of where incoming calls will be routed. Phones placed in a DNH group will receive calls in the same order every time. For example, if the first phone in the group is not busy, the next caller will always be routed to this phone. If the first phone is busy, the next incoming caller will be routed to the next available phone in the hunt order.

 Distinctive Ringing
This feature helps you distinguish between University and non-University incoming calls to your phone. One long ring indicates a call is coming to you from another University phone. One long and then one short ring represents an incoming call from a non-University phone. Operations of answering machines, fax machines and modem equipment may be affected by Distinctive Ringing.

 Distributed Line Hunt (DLH)
DLH also enables you to route incoming calls on a busy condition to other phones. However, this feature allows the calls to be more evenly distributed between all phones in the DLH group. Unlike DNH, DLH remembers the last phone that received a call and will distribute the next call to the next phone in the group that should receive the call.

 Group Intercom (GIC)
Allows you to call others within a pre-designated group by dialing a one or two digit code. Group must be established by a technician.

 Hold (Music-on-Hold)
Enables you to place a caller on hold with music by dialing a feature code. Not available on electronic telephone sets.

Cost per month: $0.50

NOTE: The built-in Hold button on the #2193 Cortelco and the #9316, #9417 and #M5316 Meridian phones can be used to place callers on hold. However, callers will hear silence instead of music. The Hold feature can be requested for these phones if you want callers to hear music while on hold.

 Key Set Music on Hold (KSMOH)
Lets callers hear music instead of silence when the hold button is activated on an electronic set. Only available on electronic telephone sets.

 Key Strip Hunt (KSH)
This feature is only available on multi-line, electronic phones. When the first line is busy on an electronic set, KSH will route the next incoming call to the next available line on the same phone. For example, line one will hunt to line two, line two will hunt to line three, and so on.

 Last Number Redial (LNR)
You are able to redial the last number you called from your telephone by simply dialing ##.

NOTE: This feature cannot be used for long distance dialing with an authorization code.

 Make Set Busy (MSB)
The Make Set Busy feature is only available on electronic telephones and allows you to make your telephone appear busy to all incoming calls.

NOTE: This feature is only available on electronic sets.

 Message Waiting
Provides you with an indication that an un-retrieved message is waiting. The message waiting indicator on most telephones is a flashing light or a diamond (electronic sets only). The message waiting indicator for most cordless telephones is stutter dial-tone.

 Outgoing Call Capabilities (Class of Service)
The Class of Service (COS) for a phone line determines the type of outgoing calls that can be placed from that line. Unrestricted service is standard on all administrative phone lines installed, unless otherwise requested. The following outgoing call options are available at no monthly fee to fit your situation:

Outgoing Call Options (COS - Class of Service)

  • 0 = Unrestricted - All types
  • 2 = Campus only
  • 3 = Campus and Authorization Code Long Distance only
  • 4 = Campus, Authorization Code Long Distance and Local only
  • 5 = Campus and Local only

NOTE: As of July 1, 2000, the software change fee of $3.65 to change a phone's outgoing call capabilities was discontinued.
NOTE: Direct-dialed long distance calls and calls placed using an Authorization Code are billed at the same rates.

 Query Busy Station (QBS)
QBS enables you to monitor the status of a busy telephone and will then alert you when that telephone becomes idle. A technician preprograms those telephone lines you wish to monitor.

NOTE: This feature can only be added to electronic telephones. However, QBS can be used to monitor both single line or electronic telephones.

 Query Time and Date (QTD)
This feature allows you to designate and use a key on an electronic display set to view the current time and date. QTD will only work on an electronic display telephone.

 Repeat Alert (RPA)
Provides you with a repeated audible notification for additional incoming calls when one line on your electronic set is already in use. Only available on electronic telephone sets.

 Ring Again
Ring Again notifies you when a busy campus extension is free and automatically re-dials the number.

Cost per month: $0.50

NOTE: Ring Again does not work when calling a non-campus telephone number, when calling a UCD or ACD phone number or when calling a number that has been forwarded to another line.

 Simultaneous Ringing (simring)
Allows you to program your campus telephone number to ring on up to five different telephones (campus and off campus) at the same time. You can activate, deactivate and change the feature at any time.

 Speed Call Short (SC 10)
Enables you to create a speed call list of up to 10 frequently called numbers that can be dialed automatically with the star key and a one-digit code. This speed call list is not shared and is programmed and/or changed by you only.

 Speed Call Long (SC 30, 50)
Enables you to create a speed call list of up to 30 or 50 telephone numbers that can be dialed by using the star key and a two-digit code. This list can also be utilized by a speed call users group. The speed call users group must be created by a technician.

Cost per month for SC 30: $1.50
Cost per month for SC 50: $2.50

NOTE: The speed call group and two-digit codes are established by the phone in the group designated as the "controller."

 Three-way Conference
See Call Transfer.

 Uniform Call Distribution (UCD)
Incoming calls to one campus telephone number are evenly distributed to a group of pre-designated campus telephones or placed in a queue when all lines are busy. Statistical information is available for an additional fee.

Cost per month for UCD Group: $14.25
Cost per month for UCD Feature: $1.70 per group member

 Voice Mail-Standard (Vmail-12)
Answers your incoming telephone calls when you are not able to. Callers are forwarded to your own voice mailbox where they will hear your personal greeting and can leave you messages. Using a touchtone telephone, you can access your voice mailbox from any location, at any time. Additional voice mail options are available. Message waiting and at least one call forwarding feature is usually required.
